Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Do you guarantee that a caregiver will be available for every shift?

A: No. While Fidelis maintains strives to maintain a pool of surplus caregivers who could fill in a shift in an emergency, it is not possible to guarantee a caregiver will be available and we strongly encourage families to have a contingency plan.

Q: How do you ensure my caregiver is properly vetted?

A: Our caregiver hiring process covers multiple interview interactions, reference checking and background checks. Additionally, all caregivers must pass competency tests and demonstrate good communication skills. Simply put, if we would not have a caregiver in our own home, then we would not have them in yours!

Q: Do you provide training to your caregivers?

A: Yes. Fidelis has a minimum requirement of one year of verifiable caregiving experience. Additional training that is specific to the needs of your loved one is provided, as needed, by our coordinators, nurse, and veteran caregivers.

Q: Do caregivers perform CPR or first aid?

A: No. Although many of our caregivers are CPR certified and have experience with basic first aid, we instruct our caregivers to always call 911 and render basic comfort only. This ensures that all aid rendered is from a properly trained first responder.

Q: Does Fidelis assess overtime fees?

A: Yes. Although we strive to minimize overtime costs, if your family prefers a specific caregiver or a smaller number of caregivers, we charge for overtime based on the number of hours over 40 that the caregiver works.

Q: Am I required to provide meals to my caregivers?

A: Yes. It is customary to provide meals for caregivers whose shifts encompass meal times. The provided meals should be in concert with what your loved one is having to eat, and there is no requirement to provide special meals, snacks, etc. for caregivers.

Q: Can I give my caregiver a gift of appreciation?

A: Yes. Please keep our office advised of any gifts that you share with your special caregiver. We ask this to ensure transparency and to protect our clients and caregivers from any potential misunderstandings about the nature of a gift.
